MCOM 59 - Advanced KCRH Radio Experience
MCOM 59 is the capstone course in KCRH’s radio sequence. It provides advanced, hands-on experience operating KCRH-FM while students develop leadership skills across programming, music, audio production, promotions, news, live sports, and underwriting.
Students are on air in every course in KCRH’s five-course sequence. MCOM 59 is the fifth and final course, where students combine advanced on-air work with station leadership and capstone responsibilities.

3 total units: 2 lecture units and 1 laboratory unit. Over a full term, students complete 36 lecture hours and 72 hands-on lab hours—about two lecture hours and four lab hours each week. Students should also plan for approximately 72 hours of coursework outside class during the term.
Lab and on-air shifts
On-air shifts are assigned in two-hour blocks. Students are expected to complete at least one shift each week. Station hours follow Chabot College’s hours of operation.
What you’ll do
Lead station departments, coordinate remote and promotional broadcasts, assemble DJ equipment for on-location events, review air-checks, provide feedback to other students, and apply FCC rules and station procedures. Students further develop skills in programming, music, audio production, promotions, news, live sports, and underwriting.
Good to know
Prerequisite: MCOM 58: Intermediate KCRH Radio Experience with a grade of C or higher. MCOM 59 is the fifth and final course in the KCRH radio sequence.
