Valerie, known to her friends in the music industry as, MzSilky has been in the music business for over 29 years. She wrote her first rap in Jr. High School, and recorded her first song at 15.  MzSilky has been featured on many local bay area artist albums such as Tellie, Mic Louie, Agerman and many more.

As the years went on she decided to switch gears.  So along with her then husband Tellie they opened up a recording studio in their home and created the record label Straight Gutta Records. She has co-produced a lot of music for artist such as, Agerman, Freddy Benz, YuckMouth, BlackBook, African Identity, BOOG a member of Sly and Family Stone, just to name a few. She has also managed a lot of talent in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. And again MzSilky is switching gears and transitioning into the radio broadcasting business.

As a musical engineer, artist and producer, MzSilky has gained a lot of experience in the musical recording business, using Nuendo and Pro Tools and can make beats using Reasons and Recycle and along with that comes a creative mind.

She can be labeled as low key, but very business minded she is the definition of a true entrepreneur.  MzSilky accredits her mother and father for her musical background. Her mother is a background singer for the San Francisco pianist Ricardo Scales and Maestro Curtis and her dad was a local DJ.

When asked who do you have on rotation on your iPod and who are your musical influences? MzSilky response was; I have a lot of different things in my musical selection, because I listen to a little bit of everything.  I have things from R&B, Hip-Hop, Oldies, Classical, Jazz, Rock, Soft Rock, Show Tunes, and even Disney music. I don’t like to limit myself to one genre, because when you are creating music you can pull inspiration from many places other than what your use to listening to.  I’m the kind of person who likes to think outside of the box when being creative. I love old school hip-hop that’s where my heart is but I give everything a chance.

A little personal information on MzSilky, She is a mother of 2 daughters.  One who graduated from Fresno State in 2012, with a BS in Child Development and is currently a teacher in SF and the other is attending Chabot College majoring in Crime Scene Investigations. She is an inspiration to all she comes in contact with. MzSilky deals with kidney failure daily but has never ever let that stop her from perusing her dreams in the music Industry, nor did it deter her from getting her certificate in Entrepreneurship, Music Industry Technology and Biotechnology.

So there you have it folks, MzSilky is on the rise so make sure you check her out on Thursday’s from 6pm to 9pm on KCRH 89.9 FM The East Bay’s Best Variety.
