Hello, my name is Salimah Shabazz, but you can call me Mrs. Makaveli. My goal is to support everyone, in every community who’ve lost a loved one in a violent crime. By giving listeners grief counseling and support group information, also by informing listeners that there are 5 stages of grief and 3 phases of mourning.
I also want to share with you that I suffer from depression & anxiety & it’s been 4 years since my brother’s were murdered.
For 2 years I literally stayed in bed and dealt with my grief in solitude. I isolated myself from everyone and never participated in any family functions.
Then I decided to start a website that would support other siblings who’ve lost a sibling in a violent crime. On September 6th 2006, I enrolled in classes at Chabot College, this was the best decision I have ever made. I always say Chabot has literally brought me out of darkness and into the light and has helped make my dreams and goals come true.
Before
Chabot College I was at a point in my life where I honestly felt I’d never be
happy again and I’d never get my life back on the right track. If it wasn’t for
Chabot College I’d still be in a rut.
I’m not saying I don’t have days when I get depressed, but because of Chabot College it’s not a deep depression. So I’d like to thank my Mass Communications family, the DSRC, Mr. “D’aloisio and all the staff, other teachers and students for their love and support during my time of grief.
